About the song: "Drop Dead"
"Drop Dead" is the lead single from You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, the third studio album by Olivia Rodrigo. It was released on April 17, 2026 by Geffen Records. Rodrigo wrote the song with Amy Allen and her longtime producer Dan Nigro, and critics have described it as a mix of synth-pop, chamber pop, indie pop and soft rock, with synthesizers, violins and violas.
The release date was teased with pink padlocks placed in cities like Los Angeles, Paris and London, which together spelled out "April 17th drop dead". Rodrigo has said the new album is mostly made of "sad love songs".
Chart success
"Drop Dead" debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, her fourth number one, making Rodrigo the first artist ever to debut the lead singles of her first three studio albums at the top of the chart. It also reached number one in Australia, Canada, Ireland, the UK and on the Billboard Global 200.
The music video
The official music video was directed by Petra Collins and premiered alongside the single. Rodrigo also included the song on the set list of her Unraveled Tour (2026–2027).
