It is a dance-pop, synth-pop and funk song that opens with a drum roll and builds into steel guitars, synthesizers and a driving bassline.
The lyrics are inspired by Ophelia, the tragic character from Shakespeare's Hamlet. In the song, Swift thanks a soulmate who saved her from a fate like Ophelia's.
